Symptoms

When looking to the Agile Gadget bar (Columns "To do", "In progress" and "Done") there is a number of issues being shown. When clicking the issue number of one of these columns you will see less issues returned in the issue navigator.

In my instance (shown above), if you click in the "In progress" number (168) you will see 120 issues returned in the issue navigator only. There are 48 missing issues in this status. The "Done" and "To do" number of issues are just fine in both Gadget and Issue navigator.

(info) If you run a query in the issue navigator only to choose the project and this release, you will see that the total is the correct sum of the numbers displayed in the gadget bar (in the example above it would be 293 issues returned).

Cause

The board finds out all the issues which are not present in the first and the last column  and shows the value in the "In Progress" so that the total is a valid one.

Resolution

To correct this, simply edit the board configuration and take out the extra condition for filtering (based on resolution for the 'Done' column). Sometimes this extra condition for filtering can also be sub-tasks for example. The indicated is to review all the conditions for filtering and verify which one of them is causing the problem.

(info) If there is a need to really filter out issues, then use the context of the board to filter the issues to ensure that all issues which are visible as part of the context are mapped at least in one column. If not, this discrepancy will always occur.
