Permission denied error in Apache logs for proxy

Symptoms

User has set up an Apache httpd proxy to present JIRA on port 80 and is on Linux.

Check the your httpd logs for the following error:

[error] (13)Permission denied: proxy: HTTP: attempt to connect to 192.168.1.1:8080 (jira.example.com) failed

Cause

SELinux is blocking httpd from working correctly.

Workaround

Deactivate SELinux, or generate and adjust SELinux policies to permit the required connections.

Resolution

Run the following command on the server to allow Apache to make outbound connections.

/usr/sbin/setsebool -P httpd_can_network_connect 1
