Problem
Login failed with incorrect username and password error.
The following appears in the atlassian-jira.log:

JIRA is connected to Active Directory (AD) as external user management and affected users are from AD.
Cause
Incorrect Directory Type used to configured JIRA's User Directories. For example, GenericLDAP is used instead of Microsoft Active Directory.
Resolution
Switch Directory Type to Microsoft Active Directory
