Schedule work items in your plan according to releases
This page refers to the advanced planning features that are only available as part of Jira Cloud Premium and Enterprise.
Along with scheduling work items by sprints or set dates, you can schedule work items based on the release to which it’s assigned.
Next to your plan’s name in the sidebar, select More actions (•••), then Plan settings.
In the Scheduling tab under the Inferred dates section, choose which dates you’d like your plan to auto-populate when work items don’t have start and end dates. Choose from:
None
Sprint dates
For work items that are part of a team-managed project, sprints must be enabled in that project. Find out how to enable sprints in team-managed projects.
Release dates
Once enabled, you can schedule work items according to the release dates the work items are assigned to a release, but have no start or end date. From here, you can then manually adjust an work item’s dates without changing its release assignment. However, if you move a work item beyond the release date, your release will fall off-track and the icon will turn red.
In order to use this setting, releases in your plan need to be scheduled using Fixed dates. If your releases uses As soon as possible, After all work items are completed, or Relative to a previous release as a start or end date, the schedule bar fades out indicating that it can’t be determined.
The Start date and Due date fields will have a R lozenge next to them, as shown below:
