General Questions

Is it possible to view this webinar after it is over? I would like to show it to co-workers.

Yes. We recorded the full webinar and will place it onto atlassian.com/tv two or three days after the webinar. We'll also create a link from atlassian.com/sharepoint. Feel free to share with other people in your organization!

Technical Requirements

Do you need to use Confluence in order to use the Sharepoint Connector?

Yes.

Also, can you share some of the functionality of Confluence from a remote server through the use of Sharepoint Connector?

Not sure what this means.

Do you need to be using Microsoft Office Sharepoint Server 2007 to use the Sharepoint Connector?

The connector also works with Windows Sharepoint Services (WSS). However, search integration and SSO are not available for integration with WSS.

Is AD integration a feature that comes with the sharepoint connector or does confluence do this natively?

Active Directory integration is a feature that is available natively in Confluence.

What type of license do you need on MOSS 2007? Standard? Enterprise?

The license type does not matter. Both standard and enterprise are supported.

Can it work with SharePoint 2003 ?

No.

Deployment, Setup and Configuration

For a work group of 30 people, what time commintment is needed for management/set up?
Is it complex to setup the connector?
My org has mulitple sharepoint servers. As I understand it the connector only supports 1 Sharepoint server. Are there any plans to extend the connector to support multiple servers?

Search Integration

How does the search handle permissions on confluence

Search uses a custom security trimmer at query time which will hit the Confluence web services to verify if the user has access.

When searching from either application, is it only the pages/page trees/sites that are ""connected"" or do I configure this on server level?

No - SharePoint will crawl the entire Confluence instance, so all content will be available in search results.

Single Sign-on / Common User Management

Does common user management require crowd?

No. Single-sign-on and Active Directory integration are included in the SharePoint Connector

Does the SSO plugin encrypt passwords?

Yes, using SharePoints native encryption methods.

Is the User feature just shared user name/password, or full SSO? Meaning, user only enters password once?

It is both...shared user name/password and SSO where the user only enters the password once.

Can you talk about SSO, Authentication, Authorization. Does the security model only work with Active directory? Can you have a SQL Server managed user profiles?

There are many ways to set up SSO, but the ones that we have tested rely on AD. You might be able to set up other methods, but that would not be supported by Atlassian.

Document List Integration

How does Confluence handle SharePoint checkout when the SharePoint document is edited from Confluence?

It delegates all of that functionality to SharePoint, so the checkout and workflow features work exactly the same.

What about checkin checkout of a SP document edited in Confluence.

You don't actually end "in" Confluence. When you click a link to a SharePoint document from a Confluence page, it is opened in Word (or Excel, etc) just as if you had clicked it from within SharePoint.

When you selected a SharePoint document list, you did not specifiy a SharePoint site. What if there are multiple lists with the same name across different sites?

You specify the URL To the site then the list name (answer provided by Kirk Liemohn)

What happens to the link in Confluence when a document is checked out of the SharePoint site for editing? Does it show up as checked out?

Yes, as far as I know.

General Integration Questions

Using the sp-list macro, can you explain the name of the list we should use? Is it the full path/name? just the final list name?

???

Can you control which view of the list in SharePoint is being used when showing it in Confluence.

Confluence allows you to specify which columns to display.

Does editing Confluence pages in Sharepoint have the same WYSIWYG interface imbedded?

Yes. Clicking 'Edit' a Confluence page within SharePoint takes you to the full editor in Confluence. From there you can choose to use wiki markup, the rich text editor, or even edit in word using the Office Connector.

Do SP alerts get triggered with changes to Confluence pages?

No.

Can the content from Confluence can be integrated to SharePoint so that we can use the workflow capability of SharePoint to manage the content of confluence?

No.

Licensing

Is the licence per confluence or sharepoint instance. Is there a support contract? Can you connect to multiple instances of SharePoint from one Confluence for e.g.

Licensing is per Confluence instance. It has the same 1-year support and maintenance agreement as all of our other software. And additional year of ongoing support is 50% of the original cost.

Future Enhancements

Note of Issues and Enhancement Requests

The priority of enhancements and bug fixes is determined largely by the stated needs of our customers. We encourage you to file your issues on our website at http://developer.atlassian.com/jira/browse/CSI

Some of the Dynamic content such as the dynamic tasklist2 renders but cannot seem to be 'used' in Sp2007. Are there plans to make such dynamic content 'work' in Sharepoint which would make it come more 'alive'....

We'd like to make our more dynamic content (requiring a lot of javascript) work in SharePoint as well as it does in Confluence, but there is no specific timeline.

Is there going to be movement to extend LDAP support to enable config of duplicated AD servers for failover support? We get AD server outages from time to time, but have 13 or so clustered replicated AD servers. Confluence is currently a single point of failure, I believe Sharepoint can 'handle' one AD server going down....

No plans for this currently.
