"There was a problem connecting to the marketplace" when using the Chrome Browser

Problem

When navigating to the Integrations page in the Hipchat Server Web UI, the user is presented with an error stating "There was a problem connecting to the marketplace" and the list of available integrations fails to load.



Steps to Reproduce

  • Log in to Hipchat Server's Web UI as an admin using the Chrome Browser
  • Click the Integrations tab

The following appears in the Web UI:

  • Hipchat Server or Data Center - any version
  • Chrome Browser 


Diagnostic Steps

  • The following sites are reachable via telnet and curl over port 443 from the Hipchat Server and the user's workstation:
    • marketplace.atlassian.com
    • marketplace-cdn.atlassian.com
    • pillar03.atlassian.com
  • When attempting to connect using another browser (Safari, IE, etc), the page loads fine.

Resolution

  • Disable the extension in Chrome or use another browser where the extension is not installed.
