Problem

When upgrading Hipchat Server, there is a SHA512sum error thrown and the upgrade fails to complete. The following error appears in the console output:

Diagnosis

Environment

  • Hipchat Server during upgrade to Hipchat Server v2.x

Cause

The Hipchat Server tar archive (shown as hcs-2.0.6-2016.10.11.013406.tar.gz in the example) is either corrupted or doesn't completely download resulting in a mismatch when the SHA512sum check is run.

Workaround

Since the problem is related to a corrupted or incomplete tar archive downloaded from the upgrade repository, please re-attempt the upgrade using the
hipchat upgrade --force-upgrade
command and wait for it to complete.  If the problem persists, then please follow the steps from How to perform offline upgrades in Hipchat Server to complete the upgrade.
