JIRA is now available as three separate applications, JIRA Software, JIRA Service Desk, and JIRA Core. For more information on administering these applications, refer to the Administering JIRA Applications documentation.

Resolution Time Report

The 'Resolution Time' report is a bar chart showing the average time taken to resolve issues. This is useful to show you the trends in resolution time. The report is based on your choice of project or issue filter, and your chosen units of time (ie. hours, days, weeks, months, quarters or years).

On this page:

What does the Resolution Time report look like?

The report generated will look something like this:

Can someone tell me if this report is based on the "in progress" time or is it based on the "created date" or is it based on the "logged work" until resolved?

If not based on "in progress" time - is there then a report that actually use the in progress/stopped progress time? Or is it only made to be used by plugins? (and if so which plugins?)

There was a plugin to monitor transition times between statuses, but it's 3rd party, so not in this, and I am not sure it has reports.

I believe the Average Unresolved Defect Age is calculated by determining the number of issues which are still currently Unresolved + the number which were marked as Resolved during the past <period> (i.e. were still Unresolved as of the start of the period), regardless of whether they have been Closed yet.  For each JIRA in this subset, the age = the difference between the creation date and the resolution date.  Average age is obviously the average age of all the issues in the subset.
