AuthenticationFailedException when connecting to Gmail as SMTP server

Problem
When trying to connect to Gmail server as a SMTP provider, the following error will be thrown in the UI:

Cause
Recently, Google services has been received several authentication features which are not supported in JIRA.
Resolution
- If you've turned on 2-Step Verification for your account, you might need to enter an App password.
- Visit http://www.google.com/accounts/DisplayUnlockCaptcha and sign in with your Gmail username and password.
- Allow less secure apps access to your account.
