Changing the user that Legacy Automations run as

Purpose

While Automation for Jira provides the ability to set the Owner as well as the Actor of a rule, Legacy Automation only allows the user that the automation will run as to be configured.

Solution

Clicking on an individual automation rule, the current user can be identified by clicking on the cogwheel within the rule. By default, this will be the user that is set as the Project Administrator. Alternatively, within individual rules, the default user can be overwritten to be the user who triggered the automation rule.

To update the default user that Legacy Automations run as follow the steps below:

  • Navigate to Project Settings > Automation > Legacy Automation
  • Clicking on the "" option on top as shown in the below screenshot:
  • Type in the desired user in the user picker field and hit Save
