Symptoms

Dashboards do not appear on the installation of JIRA at all.  The following error appears: "Error loading gadget from rest/gadgets/1.0/g/com.atlassian.jira.gadgets:admin-gadget/gadgets/admin-gadget.xml: org.apache.shindig.gadgets.GadgetException: Unable to retrieve gadget xml. HTTP error 404"

The following may appear in the atlassian-jira.log:

Cause

The Administration module (admin-gadget) is disabled in the Atlassian JIRA - Plugins - Gadgets Plugin or it is possible that the Plugin itself has been disabled entirely.  This can be caused by the manual disablement of this module in Manage Add-ons or through a plugin timeout on system start.

Resolution

• Check the Atlassian JIRA - Plugins - Gadgets Plugin via Manage Add-ons to check the condition of the plugin. Is it enabled? If not, enable it.

• Expand the list of modules for the plugin and verify that the Administration(admin-gadget) is enabled. If not, enable it.

• Check you plugin timeout settings as per JIRA System Plugin Timeout While Waiting for Plugins to Enable.
