Estimation Bubble indicator showing zero values in the Backlog view for Team Managed project

Platform Notice: Cloud - This article applies to Atlassian products on the cloud platform.

Summary

We may encounter an issue in which the Estimation Indicator in the backlog view for a Team-Managed project shows 0 minutes for one of the Categories, as shown in the screenshot below.

This scenario usually occurs when we set the Estimation to be calculated based on Time. You can configure this by going to Project Settings >> Features >> Estimation.

Cause

In order to understand the issue, we must note that these colours represent status categories. Grey and green are indeed to do and done. Blue represents all issues that are in a progress state, so they are currently being worked on.

You may have multiple statuses named In progress, In Review, etc. Although the name suggests that these statuses belong to the In Progress category, they are actually not a part of that.

This can be validated by going to the workflow configuration for team-managed projects as mentioned in this article. Please refer to the sample screenshot below.

As shown in the above screen shot, Statuses "To Do", "IN REVIEW", "IRT 2", all of them belong to "To Do" category as they are grey in colour.

Solution

In order to show the accurate data in the Estimation Indicator we need to map the Statuses to required category as mentioned in the below article.

Edit a status’s name or category in your issue type’s workflow

Kindly note that, Statuses can be shared between issue types. If you change the name or category of these shared statuses, Jira also updates their names and categories in all your project’s workflows that use the status.
