Generic error message when trying to deactivate ITSM features
Platform Notice: Cloud - This article applies to Atlassian products on the cloud platform.
Summary
When trying to deactivate Service request management, Incident management, Problem management, or Change management features under the Features page of a Jira Service Management project, the following error is received:
We couldn't disable service requests
Refresh the page and try again.
Cause
The cause of this issue is due to one or more request types associated with those features not having a valid issue type associated with them.
Solution
To correct the issue, the affected request types must have an issue type re-associated with them:
- Go to the Project settings page for the project
- This should be at the bottom of the left sidebar of the project, but if it is not visible, you may need to click on Back to project at the top of the left sidebar
- Click on Request types (on the left sidebar)
- Locate the request type(s) that have Invalid Issue type under the Issue type column
- Take note of the names of the affected request types
- Repeat this for any other Work categories in the left sidebar including Unassigned
- Click on Issue types (on the left sidebar)
- Click on Actions (in the upper right-hand corner)
- Click on Edit issue types
- Under the Available Issue Types column, click on the issue type that was originally associated with the request type you are trying to correct and drag it to the Issue Types for Current Scheme column
- If you are uncertain which one it was, take note of the issue types listed under the Available Issue Types and click Add all
- You can then remove the unneeded issue types again later if desired – instructions on how to do so can be found later in this article
- If you are uncertain which one it was, take note of the issue types listed under the Available Issue Types and click Add all
- Click on Save
- Go back to the Features page for the project
- Deactivate the features you are wanting to deactivate
If you used the Add all option above and you'd like to remove the other issue types that are no longer needed, take note of the issue type(s) that are now associated with the request type(s) that earlier returned Invalid issue type as you will want to ensure that you do not remove those.
- Go back to the Request types page for the project
- Locate the request type(s) that earlier returned an Invalid issue type
- Take note of the issue type they are associated with
- Click on Issue types (on the left sidebar)
- Click on Actions (in the upper right-hand corner)
- Click on Edit issue types
- Click on the unneeded issue type(s) (i.e., not being used by a request type) under the Issue Types for Current Scheme column and drag them to the Available Issue Types column
- Click on Save
