Get a developer license for Jira Server
Platform Notice: Server and Data Center Only - This article only applies to Atlassian products on the server and data center platforms.
If you already have a developer license, you can add it under the Administration > Applications page. You can also create a new key as described below.
Getting a Developer License
Only a technical contact for your commercial/academic license is able to create a Developer license.
Atlassian supplies "developer" licenses that can be used by existing commercial license holders who wish to deploy non-production installations of our software to use in QA/staging environments. Developer licenses are free-of-charge to commercial license holders and, like our commercial offerings, they include 12 months of updates starting from the purchase date of the commercial license.
If you hold a commercial license, you can obtain a free developer license by following these steps:
- Log in to your Atlassian account.
- Under the "Licenses" heading, all of your licenses will be displayed. Click the plus sign next to a JIRA license to view its details.
- Click the 'View Developer License' link in the bottom right corner of the license detail panel, below your commercial license key.
* Atlassian Starter, Community and Open Licenses do not include free Developer Licenses. If you need a development environment for your Starter License please purchase an additional Starter License. Community and Open Source license holders, please contact our Customer Advocate Team if you need a license for your development environments.
Note about Version Compatibility
Earlier versions of our products do not support developer licenses. The table below indicates which versions of each product support developer licenses.
Clover for Ant
Clover for Eclipse 3
Clover for IDEA 6
JIRA Perforce Plugin
JIRA VSS Plugin

If you are working with an older version that does not recognize developer licenses, you can use your existing commercial license in your test environment.
