Purpose

When Insight Discovery application is configured for an instance, it generates a Instance ID. Often, we need to understand how this ID is generated and how can this be changed.

Solution

The Instance ID is generated using the path to the tool and the id of the first network interface. If you want to change the instance ID, then you can change the folder name. Alternatively, if you need a different identifier, then edit the Instance Prefix in the Discovery application by running Discovery.exe. More information about Instance Prefix can be found here : https://documentation.mindville.com/display/INSDISC/Common.

(info) The instance ID of the tool is not used as import identifier for the Discovery import.

If you need to configure for multiple server nodes, then you can change the path like /var/tools/discovery001/discovery, /var/tools/discovery002/discovery and so on. This will make sure that the Instance ID for different nodes will be different.
