Purpose

Read on to learn the criteria JIRA uses when suggesting sprint names.

Solution

JIRA uses two different methods when suggesting sprint names:

  1. If no sprint exists on a given board, the suggested sprint name will be based on the name of the board. For example, for a board named Test, the suggested sprint name will be Test Sprint 1.
  2. If a sprint is already present on a board, the suggested sprint name will be based on the name of the most recent existing sprint. For example, for a board named Test with an existing sprint named Sprint 1.1, the suggested name will be Sprint 1.2.
    1. Please note that the above criteria applies when any sprint appears on the board, even if it's a sprint from another board. Such sprints will be visible when the boards share issues, and any such shared issue is part of a sprint on another board.
