Symptoms

The following appears during the installation using Linux installer:

It appears that JIRA is already installed in the directory you selected. Please choose a different directory.

Diagnosis

1. Check if there's a JIRA directory in the specific location that chose during installation.
2. If using Express Install option, check /opt/atlassian/jira as it is the default location for Linux installer.
3. If using unattended mode, please double check the directory in the varfile as the varfile stored the option(include directories) used in previous installation.

Cause

There's an existing JIRA directory in the installation location.

Resolution

• If the existing directory is not in use anymore, remove from the path.
• Install in another location.
• If you're upgrading JIRA, please use the Upgrade an existing JIRA installation [3] to point to your existing JIRA directories.
