Summary

A user with project and/or board administrator permissions is unable to edit administrators for a company-managed board.

On the board configuration page, a warning states: "You don't have permission to edit administrators" under the list of current board admins.

Confirm the affected user's global permissions

In order to edit administrators for any board in Jira, the user must have the Share dashboards and filters global permission.

As a Jira administrator:

  1. Navigate to gear Settings > System
  2. Select Global permissions in the navigation menu
  3. Scroll to the Share dashboards and filters global permission
  4. Check which groups or users have been granted this permission
  5. Compare this permission to your affected user's group membership
  6. Adjust the global permission or group membership as necessary

Affected users can't edit any board settings

If affected users can't edit any of the settings for a board, the issue is not related to the global permission mentioned above.

To configure the board and any of its settings, you must be either:

  • project administrator for the location of the board

  • board administrator for the board itself

To correct this, an existing project administrator can:

  1. Navigate to the affected project
  2. Select gear Project settings
  3. Select Permissions
  4. Add the appropriate user, project role, or group to the Administer projects permission within the scheme your project uses
