Solution

How do Smart links work for Confluence Server URLs?

  • Jira Cloud does not support Confluence Server links as Smart Links and they are usually plain URLs as hyperlinks.

  • Jira Cloud depends on iframely to get the metadata for Smart links.

  • It is only possible to get the Smart links if the Confluence Server is exposed to the internet.

Additional notes:

  • Jira Cloud uses https://iframely.com/embed in order to fetch data about most links.

  • iframley is used to enable the Smart link in Jira and Confluence Cloud both.

  • The only data that gets sent to iframely from Jira Cloud is the link (URL) only.
