Summary

When searching for issues in JQL, the sprints field appears to sort the value in alphabetical order. However, in some specific cases, this order may not appear. JQL search may show sprints in random order.

Solution

The sprints in the JQL search are sorted by the order of their ID. Generally, the sprint names are sorted when they are created (Sprint 1, followed by Sprint 2, and so on..). This naturally takes care of the sorting as Sprint 1's ID is smaller than that of Sprint 2 as it is created before Sprint 2. However, if the reverse is followed, the sprint will come in the order of creation. It is recommended to follow the practice of a sequence so that the ordering is honored in the JQL search.
