Summary

In few scenarios, customer build their “In-house” applications and they would want to integrate these applications with the production Jira cloud instances without listing them over the Atlassian Marketplace.

Solution

Users can test the in house application thoroughly in their sandbox/test instance which should be replica of the production instance to ensure nothing breaks down, such that when they implement the integration on the production they don’t face any issues.

Things to note

  • The apps can be side-loaded (not using Marketplace) by site admins. Users can also disable development mode after installing their custom in-house app. The "Upload app" option just disappears from UPM screen from the manage apps.

  • Enabling development mode will not impact how Atlassian provide the support. Moreover, Development mode, as a feature, doesn't do anything other than allow users to upload their in-house app.

  • If the app has scopes (permissions) to cause damage (like delete content pages / spaces), then indeed, that would be problematic. Hence we should request users to be mindful in granting the limited permissions to the applications.
