Problem

When administering JIRA Software, you may find that some issue statuses have the following description:

This status is managed internally by JIRA Software

This may lead to confusion on whether these statuses are safe to edit or remove.

Cause

This description indicates that the issue status was created manually on an Agile board (Configure > Columns > Add status).

The ability to Add statuses within the Board Configuration is only available when using the Simplified Workflow.  

Resolution

These issue statuses can be treated as any other issue status. They are not required by JIRA Software and can be modified or removed.
