Unable to enable the automation rule which was imported post migration to Jira Cloud.

Platform Notice: Cloud - This article applies to Atlassian products on the cloud platform.

Summary

This article addresses the situation in which a rule cannot be activated following its migration to the cloud. Specifically, it examines the error that occurs due to insufficient permissions for the rule actor, identified as "atlassian-addons-project-access."

Environment

Jira Cloud

Cause

This situation may arise if a rule was imported into a project that has been migrated, and the rule's designated actor (i.e. atlassian-addons-project-access project role) does not possess the necessary permissions to execute the actions specified within the rule. It is essential to ensure that the actor configured for the rule has the appropriate permissions configured to carry out the intended actions successfully.

Solution

In order to resolve this, the permissions needs to be updated in the required project:

  • Navigate to the permission scheme configured for the project.
  • Edit the permission scheme and add the default rule actor i.e. atlassian-addons-project-access project role to the missing permissions.
  • Once the permissions have been updated, navigate to the rule and it can now be enabled successfully.
