Unable to select existing Project to Share settings when creating a new company managed project

Platform Notice: Cloud - This article applies to Atlassian products on the cloud platform.

Summary

Jira administrators often create projects based on existing project settings, finding it easier than configuring everything from scratch. However, some administrators have reported issues when attempting to create a new company-managed project in Jira (Software/Service Management) Cloud using existing project settings. Despite enabling the "Share settings with an existing project" option, the base project is not listed when searched to select the project as template.

Diagnosis

When configuring a new company-managed project in Jira Cloud, certain users have encountered an issue where existing projects are not displayed for sharing settings.

Cause

The user creating the new project must have Administrator permission for the base project that is serving as a template and copying settings.

Solution

Please assign the Administrator role to the base project, ensuring that the settings are copied for the user who is creating a new project.

To add Administrator role to the user:

  1. Go to Project Settings of the templated (base) project.

  2. Click people under the project settings.

  3. Add the user who is creating new project with Administrator role.

Now it should list the base project for the user who is creating a new project as shown below when adding a new company-managed project in Jira Cloud.
