Unexpected Failure Occurred when Creating a New Service Management

Symptoms

Creating a New Service Management project from Service Management drop-down menu -> Create a Service Management fails with this error:

  1. for the very first service project (Welcome to Service Management):
  2. for any other service project:

The following appears in the atlassian-jira.log:

Diagnosis

Creating a New Service Management project from Projects drop-down menu -> Create Project -> Service Management project is still successful

Cause

The Customer Request Type custom field created by Service Management plugin does NOT have Global context

Workaround

Creating a New Service Management project from Projects drop-down menu -> Create Project -> Service Management project

Resolution

  • go to Jira Administration -> Issues -> Custom Fields
  • configure Customer Request Type custom field and set it to Global context

  • reindex Jira
