Use the Edit Workflows permission in company-managed projects in Jira Cloud

Platform Notice: Cloud - This article applies to Atlassian products on the cloud platform.

Summary

The Edit Workflows permission in company-managed projects allows non-admins to edit workflows that are not shared with any other projects.

Shared workflows can't be edited by users with the "Edit Workflows" permission unless they have been assigned the Administer Jira global permission.

Check if a workflow is shared with other projects

These steps must be performed by Jira Administrators.

  • Go to Settings > Issues
  • Select Workflows
  • Find the relevant workflow in the list

If more than one project or workflow scheme is listed next to this workflow, it is shared. You can copy this workflow and assign it to your project to allow for it to be edited by non-admin users with the Edit Workflow permission.

Assign the Edit Workflow Permission

  • Navigate to your project
  • Select Project Settings
  • Select Permissions
  • Ensure the user has the Edit Workflows permission
  • The user must also have the Browse Project permission to view and edit workflows
