Summary

Learn about the two Slack integrations available in Jira Service Management.

Are there two ways to integrate a service project with Slack?

Yes! When setting up a Jira Service Management project, there are two ways to integrate your project with Slack: Chat or Slack Integration.

Both integrations allow you to create and work on tickets in Slack but have different use cases. Some key points about them:

  • Each integration uses a separate app in Slack to function and have an entirely separate usability.
    • The Slack integration uses an app named Jira.
    • The Chat integration uses an app named Assist.
  • The two integrations can coexist within the same Slack workspace and service project.
  • The Chat feature is exclusive to service projects.

What is the Jira Slack Integration?

  • It's available for all Jira products and project types (business, software, and service).
  • This integration works exclusively for licensed users.
  • Creates tickets in Jira based on issue types.
  • Powered by the app named Jira (Cloud):
Jira app as seen in Slack.

You can read more about this integration at Integrate Jira Cloud and Slack.

What is Chat/Assist?

  • Available only for service projects (Jira Service Management).
  • Works for unlicensed users (customers) as well. Both licensed Jira users and customers (unlicensed users) can use it to raise requests.
  • Creates tickets based on request types (exclusive to service projects).
  • Adds to Slack an app named Assist:
Assist app as seen in Slack.

You can read more about this integration at Receive and manage requests in Slack or Microsoft Teams.
