Creating a new page

You can create a page from anywhere within Confluence so long as you have the permission to create pages.

Pages in Confluence are written using a simple notation that allows for all the styles available in a standard text editor. And to help you along the way, the quick notation guide is conveniently placed beside the edit screen. Confluence also provides for some complex styling and formatting. Click on the full notation guide in your help window to learn more about these.

There are two easy ways to add a new page:

1. By clicking the 'Add Page' link located beside each space on the Dashboard or at the top of every page.

Click on the 'Add Page' link. This will bring up a window.
Enter a 'Title' for your page.
Choose a 'Space' from the drop down menu where you want your page to be located.
Specify 'Parent Page' - If you clicked on 'Add page' from another page, Confluence will default the new page as a child of the first page. To choose a different parent, use the 'Choose a Page' option or the search facility (currently being built) to select it. Or else, simply type in the name of the parent page.
If you want to move the page to the root directory of a space, leave this field blank.
Enter content for your page.
'Preview' if desired. Click 'Add'.

2. By defining a link from within a page.

In Confluence, you can create links to pages that do not as yet exist. This is a useful facility as it allows you to create links first and enter content for those pages later. See Linking to pages within a space.

This type of a link is an undefined link and is indicated with the plus sign to remind you that the page needs to be created. Clicking on it brings up a screen that allows you to add content and create the page.

For example:
Link to new page.

Simply click on the link to add content using the same method as above.

WARNING
Confluence does not accept the following characters in the title of the page:

(:, @, /, %, \, &, !, |, #, $, *, ;, ~, [, ], (, ), {, }, <, >).
