Creating a new page

Creating a page in Confluence is easy. You can create a page from anywhere within the site so long as you have permission to do so.

Pages in Confluence are written using a simple notation that allows for all the usual styles available in a standard html editor. And to help you along the way, the quick notation guide is conveniently placed beside the edit screen. Confluence also permits some complex styling and formatting. Click on the full notation guide in your help window to learn more about these.

There are two ways to add a new page:

1. By clicking the 'Add Page' link located beside each space on the Dashboard / or at the top of every page
This link is only displayed if you have 'create' rights to a space. If you do not see this link, you probably do not have permission to add pages and should contact your space administrator for a change in status.

Click on the 'Add Page' link. This will bring up a window.
Enter a 'Title' for your page.
Choose a 'Space' from the drop down menu where you want your page to be located.
Specify 'Parent Page' - If you clicked on 'Add page' from another page, Confluence will default the new page as a child of the first page. To choose a different parent, use the 'Choose a Page' option or the search facility (currently being built) to select it. Or else, simply type in the name of the parent page.
If you want to move the page to the root directory of a space, leave this field blank.
Enter content for your page.
'Preview' if desired. Click 'Add'.

2. By following undefined links within a page

In Confluence, you can create links to pages that do not as yet exist. This is a useful facility as it allows you to create links first and enter content for those pages later. See Linking to pages within a space.

This type of a link is an undefined link and is indicated with a plus sign to remind you that the page needs to be created. Clicking on it brings up a screen that allows you to add content.

For example:
Link to new page.

WARNING
Confluence does not accept the following characters in the title of the page:

(:, @, /, %, \, &, !, |, #, $, *, ;, ~, [, ], (, ), {, }, <, >).
