Installing GreenHopper

The installation of GreenHopper is no different from any other JIRA plugin installation.

  1. Download the GreenHopper jira-greenhopper-plugin-4.0-beta4-jira40-complete.jar.
  2. Shut down JIRA.
  3. Replace or copy the jar into the {JIRA_HOME}/plugins/installed-plugins directory.
  4. Remove any jira-greenhopper-plugin-*.jar from your {JIRA_HOME}/atlassian-jira/WEB-INF/lib directory.
  5. Restart JIRA.

Entering your GreenHopper License

New license required for GreenHopper 4.0

If you have an existing license for GreenHopper 3.8.x or earlier, you will need to upgrade it before you can use GreenHopper 4.0. Any existing 3.x license files will not work with 4.0. Before upgrading to GreenHopper 4.0, please upgrade your license as follows:

  1. Go to my.atlassian.com.
  2. Generate a GreenHopper license for 4.0.
  3. Once you have upgraded your license, please follow the instructions below.
  1. Log in as a user with the 'JIRA Administrators' global permission.
  2. Bring up the administration page by clicking either the 'Administration' link on the top bar or the title of the Administration box on the dashboard.
  3. Click the 'GreenHopper Licence' link under the 'System' section of the administration menu. This will display the 'GreenHopper License' screen (see screenshot below)
  4. Enter your license details and click 'Upload'. Please note, you can use either your pre-3.8 GreenHopper license, or your GreenHopper license available via your My Atlassian account (available for GreenHopper 3.8 and later).

Getting Started using GreenHopper

To navigate to GreenHopper,

  • Click on the new 'PLANNING BOARD' menu tab.
    (info) Note: The last planning board of the last project viewed will be displayed. If there is none, the first project you are allowed to browse will be displayed.
    OR
  • Browse a project and click the 'Planning board' link.

GreenHopper does not add or alter JIRA tables or columns

Adding or removing GreenHopper from your installed plugins will not cause any collateral damage to your JIRA data.

Upgrading GreenHopper

The upgrade of GreenHopper is no different from any other JIRA plugin upgrade.
(info) The licence can only be updated by a JIRA administrator.

  1. Download the new version of the jar file from the GreenHopper Download Center (If you have a .zip simply rename your file as a .jar — Internet Explorer is playing tricks on you)
  2. Shut down your Web server.
  3. Remove the old version of the jar from your JIRA installation directory/WEB-INF/lib directory.
  4. Copy the new version of the jar into your JIRA installation directory/WEB-INF/lib directory.
  5. Restart your Web server.

Uninstalling GreenHopper

If you want to uninstall GreenHopper, simply remove the jar from the JIRA installation directory/WEB-INF/lib directory. However, before you remove remove the jar, ensure that you have disabled the GreenHopper night service.

To disable the GreenHopper night service,

  1. Log in as a user with the 'JIRA Administrators' global permission.
  2. Bring up the administration page by clicking either the 'Administration' link on the top bar or the title of the Administration box on the dashboard.
  3. Navigate to 'GreenHopper' link under the 'Global Settings' section of the administration menu.
  4. Navigate to 'GreenHopper Listeners and Services' > 'GreenHopper night service' and disable the Greenhopper night service
