Bonfire includes browser extensions for all the major browsers, including Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, and Safari. The browser extension allows you to capture issues in your JIRA projects directly from any web page, take and annotate screenshots, use issue templates, manage test sessions, and much more.
To see if your browser's version is supported for Bonfire browser extension, check out the Bonfire compatibility chart.
Note that Bonfire does not currently support any mobile browsers (iOS, Android, etc.).
You will also need the Bonfire JIRA plugin installed on your instance of JIRA before the extensions become available.

OUr company policy blacklists all extensions, and we need the unique Chrome Extension ID in order to whitelist it. Since Bonfire is not in the chrome store our sysadmins cant find the info, and are threatening to block it!
Help! What is the extension ID??? for chrome
Andrew Prentice
Bonfire's Chrome ID is: ncojcjgicednkfkdfbndhmnddjilkbik
You can view this in Chrome after installing Bonfire by choosing "Extensions" from the "Windows" menu. The IDs for each of your installed extensions will be listed on the page that is then displayed.

How are licenses managed ? If I have unlimited JIRA licenses, but I only have say 20 people that will use Bonfire, how do I manage which people get that license ?
edwin
Hi there,
Bonfire's licensing requires that your user tiers match JIRA's users, so all JIRA users will be licensed to use JIRA.
Thanks!
Edwin

How is the extension (Chrome) itself licensed? Our company has very strict policies on the use of licensed software and I can't find that documentation anywhere. I know the Jira plugin is sold and licenses in user tiers, does that include the extensions, or are they under some other license?
edwin
Hi there,
The Chrome extension is part of the Atlassian Bonfire product, and is licensed under Atlassian's End User License agreement in the same way.
The Atlassian End User License is available here: http://www.atlassian.com/about/licensing/license.jsp

We don't have access to internet access on our developing network. is it possible to download the bonfire extension without JIRA on a internet computer and then add them to Firefox/IE on the "no internet" developing network?
Anonymous
Yes it is. If you install Bonfire on your JIRA server and then select "Get Bonfire" from your profile menu, on the download Bonfire page that's displayed, copy the link from the download button. Repeat this step using each of the browsers you want to get Bonfire extensions for as the link is different for each. E.g. the url for the current Bonfire extension for chrome is http://downloads.atlassian.com/software/bonfire/1.0/chrome/bonfire-latest.crx
Then on your internet connected machine, open these links in a different browser i.e. don't open the link for the Chrome extension in Chrome (otherwise it'll auto install), instead open the Chrome link in Firefox or IE. This will trigger the extension to be downloaded, not installed. You can then copy the downloaded extensions files to your development network.
Note that your Bonfire extensions won't auto-update for bug fixes etc. so you'll need to upgrade these manually

The user name drop-down menu point "Get Bonfire" does not exist for me. My test-account is: https://apparena.atlassian.net
The plugin is definitely installed on your cloud-solution as I added it to my basket during checkout.
Can you help me and get back to me?
Thanks,
Sebastian (s.buckpesch@iconsultants.eu)

The user name drop-down menu point "Get Bonfire" does not exist for me either. My test-account is: https://justjobs.atlassian.net
Can you help?
thanks,
Eric

Hi Eric and Sebastian,
Apologies about the inconvenience. With onDemand, the link is indeed missing in the drop down. Our team is looking at solutions to make this link more obvious throughout the product.
In the meantime, you can access the page directly by going to the URL as (your url/secure/GetBonfire.jspa)

Edwin

We started using Bonfire today and it's awesome, but we have one question. How do you launch Bonfire when in a popout in Chrome? There is no "Toggle Sidebar" keyboard shortcut (like there is for IE and Firefox)? Please help!
Gilmore Davidson
Do you mean a popup window, without a toolbar?
Unfortunately Chrome gives all extensions very limited access to popup windows, and only runs background scripts (that allow Bonfire to capture the page) in the context of the parent page that opened the popup.
Our cross-browser compatibility with popup windows is detailed in the Bonfire Compatibility Chart.

We have Jira on-demand purchased through the Google Apps marketplace. How do we add Bonfire onto our service? I cannot see it anywhere.
Thanks.

We would like to allow our beta testers to use Bonfire (via browser plugin) without having to go through Jira. We have a beta testing account set up that will be the login credentials for Bonfire. What we need to know is if there is a link we can give for downloading just the browser extension? We cannot guarantee what browser the users will have, so links to the Safari, Chrome, Firefox and IE versions would be good.
Thanks.
Gilmore Davidson
It's difficult to give out direct links to the browser extension installers, as these links change depending on the version of Bonfire installed in JIRA.
I'd advise going to the Get Bonfire page of your server instance and copying the links provided.

Can someone tell me how to close the "managing sessions" screen (with the 1,2,3) on Chrome? The instructional page is not closing.
Gilmore Davidson
As of Bonfire 2.0, the help overlay has a "Close" link to dismiss it.

It would be super easy to adapt bonfire to be standalone and instead of taking web screenshots, to take windows screenshots, can we do that somehow?
Diego N. Pamio
I need to integrate bonfire inside a qtwebview control (qt webkit implementation) of a qt application that shows HTML content, how can I do that?

I've installed Bonfire plugin on my IE browser which is version 7 and version 8. On both instances, the Bonfire panel is blank which means i couldn't see anything or even to login. I see the Atlassian Bonfire icon located on my toolbar. I can click on it to display the panel but nothing is on the panel.
Gilmore Davidson
This can happen if third-party extensions are disabled in IE's settings.
Go to Tools -> Internet Options and select the Advanced tab, then make sure the “Enable third-party browser extensions” option is checked (in the “Browsing” section).
I've added a note about this to the Bonfire Troubleshooting Guide.
Anonymous
Our group policy has made the "Enable third-party browser extensions" disabled and end-users cannot change this particular setting. Our security people would not enable this setting. Is there a way to just enable it for Bonfire but not for any other extensions?
Anonymous
Is there a keyboard shortcut to access the bonfire plugin (chrome)? I need this to document hover effects on my websites. Or is there maybe an other way to do this?
Gilmore Davidson
There is a keyboard shortcut for taking a screenshot that you can customise. When Bonfire is open, click the cog icon to open the login/settings overlay, where you can change the default shortcut that is used.

I'm attempting to evaluate JIRA and Bonfire to see if our company is ready to buy. Installed JIRA and Bonfire to localhost, and got Bonfire extension on Firefox. But the Server URL populates with default text like "should start with http://...", not a usable address. I tried to put in the localhost URL, but that didn't work. What am I missing?
Gilmore Davidson
The default text is just a placeholder that should disappear when the input is focused.
The URL to enter in that box is the base URL of the JIRA server. To get the base URL, you can go to the Dashboard in JIRA, then copy the URL in the address bar and take off the "secure/Dashboard.jspa" part at the end.

I've installed, uninstalled and reinstalled the IE extension multiple times and I just can't seem to be able to see it at all. The installer completes successfully, and when I restart IE(8), there's no Bonfire toolbar anywhere to be found. When I got into Manage Add-ons, it also doesn't show up in that list either. Anybody else running into this?
IE8 on Win7.
Anonymous
I have the same problem and have so far not found any solution. I am running IE9 on Win7. Does anyone have a solution?
Anonymous
A major problem, the newest version of Google Chrome doesnt allow users to install extensions directly from the developers own website, it only allows installation of extensions directly from the official chrome webstore.
Quite annoying when you are trying to install the plugin on this version now...
Is there anything to improve that process?
Gilmore Davidson
We have added some installation instructions here: Installing Bonfire extension in Chrome – these instructions will also be on the Get Bonfire Extension page from version 2.4 onwards.
In the long term we're looking at options to get Bonfire into the Chrome Web Store once we've sorted out API stability between the browser extensions and the server plugin.

With the last version we cannot even create a screenshot.. HELP! HELP! I've got the message "Bonfire does not have permission to take screenshots of Chrome system pages."
Gilmore Davidson
This error occurs if the Bonfire extension opens while you're looking at the Chrome Extensions page – if you try to open Bonfire on a different tab it should work.

I am unable to see the bonfire link to add as an extension for the browser..I am using JIRA 5.0
