Bonfire makes it super easy and fast for you to create comprehensive issues straight to JIRA, without ever leaving your web application.

Creating the issue

Creating an issue is done under the "Create Issue" tab in the Bonfire browser extension. As you select the project and the issue type, Bonfire will update the issue creation form to reflect the same fields that are available in JIRA's create issue web interface. Bonfire also allows you to quickly attach screenshots to the issue you are creating with the Attach screenshot function.

You can create issues faster by using Templates and Variables to pre-fill information.

Creating Sub-Tasks

An issue can also be raised as a sub-task by selecting a sub-task issue type in the project create form.

The parent of the sub-task is a "Related Issue" attached to the current Session. Only valid sub-task types for the project will be selectable. You will then be able to select which of the related issues should be the parent of the issue currently being created.

Contextual information for issues created using Bonfire

When creating an issue using Bonfire, useful contextual information is captured to assist in debugging the issue. This information can be viewed on the issue page.

  1. Hi,

Do you think it will be possible one day to send the screenshot in the clipboard ? It could be really useful to have this feature.

    1. Hi there,

I think that's definitely a possibility. In fact, we've been looking at ways to allow you to drag & drop arbitrary files onto Bonfire to attach as well.

I've created a feature request here that you can keep track of: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/BON-141

      Regards,
      Edwin

  2. Is there something special that needs to be done to add annotations to screenshots?  Seems very hit or miss...I try to add ellipse or arrow, and the thing keeps "sticking" to my pointer, doesn't actually get added to image.  I thought maybe I wasn't using the interface correctly, but I haven't found documentation describing exactly what to do to make the annotations work.  Any help would be nice.

    1. Hi David,

      Thanks for trying Bonfire.

Would you be able to substantiate a little more about what you mean by "sticking" to your pointer? To draw ellipses, arrows, etc, you should click, then drag, when a tool is active to draw that shape. Is that not working for you?

      Cheers,
      Edwin

    2. Hi David,

Bonfire had a bug where the ellipse and arrow tools didn't stop drawing in IE8.
This bug has been fixed in Bonfire 1.2, which has just been released.

      Cheers,
      Gilmore

Hi, sorry having troubles logging in here My name is David Vitek.

firstly, love this app. very handy lots of potential.

for me the obvious things missing were

    1. only 1 screenshot per issue is limiting. most of our bugs will require a few screen shots to explain issue

    2. the font on the annotation is a weird yellow colour. we havent figured out how to change it. if it cant be changed then its an issue because its not very readable on our sites.

    1. Hi David,

      Thanks for the encouraging comment.

Both valid points and something that is on our radar. Our issue tracker is tracking both of these issues for your record, please feel free to track our progress there, vote on the issue, or provide more comments.

      1. https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/BON-10 - Ability to attach multiple screenshots to one issue.
      2. https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/BON-5 - Ability to choose color/font of annotation tools

      Thanks and regards,

    Hi,

I have the special issue with sub-bugs in it in Jira. How it works in bonfire? Is it possible to create a sub-task?

    Kind regards,

    Magdalena

    1. Hi Magdalena,

With the release of Bonfire 1.2 it is now possible to create sub-tasks through Bonfire.
More details are in the Bonfire 1.2 release notes.

      Cheers,
      Gilmore

Is it possible to remember what Project you last recorded a bug, or at least set a default template? It is very frustrating to add bugs to the wrong project by mistake.

    1. Hi there,

Thanks for the suggestion - agreed, it would definitely make the process even faster.

We're tracking that suggestion here: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/BON-111 and https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/BON-47

      Stay tuned!

      Thanks,
      Edwin

  6. Hi,

do you know why, under IE8, the annotation Blur and Crop are not available?

    Many thanks for the response,

    Sabrina

    1. Hi Sabrina,

Due to the lack of HTML5's canvas element in IE7 and 8, we had to disable crop and blur for those two browsers due to implementation issues with the older VML technology.

We are looking into ways of adding cropping support for IE7/8 (tracked at https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/BON-172), but at this stage it looks like the blur tool will not be able to be implemented.

      Cheers,
      Gilmore

Is there a way to rename the default screenshot name generated by Bonfire and attached to the issue?

    Regards.

    Bruno.

Hello! Does anyone on Bonfire Team has an answer for this question?!?

I really want to change the screenshot name.

      1. Hi there,

Bonfire currently doesn't provide a capability to rename the screenshot.

I'm curious to learn more about why you'd be looking to rename the screenshot?

        Regards,

        Edwin

        1. Anonymous

          Hi Edwin,

Thanks for your answer. Actually I would like to strategically hide from external users how I got the screenshot. The names always come with "bonfire" on the beggining.

Is there any way to do this?

          Regards,

          Bruno.

          1. Hi Bruno,

Unfortunately, there's no easy way to do this right now in Bonfire.

If you are using Chrome and Safari only, you can try this: on the "thumbnail" screenshot in the left hand panel, drag the "thumbnail" onto your desktop. This will save the annotated screenshot onto a file on your desktop, where you can re-name the file and upload to the JIRA issue. Please note - this is an experimental feature, so isn't fully supported currently.

You can, of course, re-upload the file directly to JIRA to rename it as well.

            Regards,
            Edwin

  8. Is there a keyboard shortcut that will allow us to take the screenshot while keeping the mouse pointer on an element that we want to include in the screenshot.

    Jorge.

    1. Hi Jorge,

There isn't currently a shortcut, but we are looking to add that ability.
We're tracking the suggestion at https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/BON-148

      Cheers,

      Gilmore

  9. We are evaluating Bonfire currently.  It looks pretty promising.   It appears that you can only create new issues.  My team wants to know if there is a way to use Bonfire with an existing issue?

    Regards,

    Chantele

    1. There is a way, kind of. You can attach a screenshot to an existing issue by clicking on the 'Attach Screenshot' button on the Bonfire plug-in and then expanding the section right below that reads: "Attach to recently update issue".

The reason I say "kind of" is that it doesn't allow you to enter the issue you want to link it to. It only allows you to select from recently update issues.

Hope this helps in some way.

      Jorge.

      1. Yes - that's right. From Bonfire 1.1, you can attach any number of screenshots to an existing issue.

Chantele - is there something else you are looking when working with an existing issue? e.g. Comment?

        Edwin

        1. Thank you Jorge and Edwin!  We were looking for a drop down or text input box to choose an existing issue.  Didn't see the "Attach to recently updated issue".  Although it would be awesome if we could add comments.   This is will help our testers to streamline their current process.

      2. What if the issue has not been updated lately? I have a session I created off of an open ticket but I cant attach the image to that ticket. Even updating the ticket does not make the issue show up in the dropdown. Any reason why we cant just type the issue key in to search for the ticket to attach to? It makes sense to create bugs/issues and link them in some cases but not in mine most of the time, especially if the ticket is in progress.

    Hi all,

First of all, the tool seems to be very helpful in testing process. I would like to ask if there is any way to link the originated issue directly with the one that it came from without using the Test Session Activity.

    Regards,

    Vassiliki

    1. Hi Vassiliki,

Right now, the linking functionality only works for issues captured in Bonfire sessions.

      Cheers,

      Edwin

I am unable to create a sub-task from the Firefox extension. I have a related issue of type story associated with the test session, but the only options that I am given in the Bonfire extension are Bug, Task, and Story. There is no sub-task section as it appears in your screenshot and directions.

    Please help.

    Thanks,

    Matt

    1. Hi Matt,

Just to confirm a couple of things:

Is your test session currently in progress?

Can you create sub-tasks for your related story in JIRA?

      Thanks,

      Edwin

      1. Anonymous

I can create substasks in JIRA related to a Story or bug and I was attempting with the current session in progress.

I would like to utilize bonfire, but without the Subtask functionality from the extension I lose the core functionality.

It seems that the issue may be resolved. Not sure what I did. If I come across this again I will "raise and issue".

        Thanks again,

        Matt
