Why we created this page

The new editor in Confluence 4.0 is one of the biggest changes we've made to Confluence and it's generated a lot of discussion (to say the least!) from the wiki markup diehards. We love the feedback, we want more of it, but with most of it dispersed through the comments of the documentation it's been hard to keep track of and turn it into meaningful changes we can make and communicate back to you.

To achieve our goal of making the new editor so good that even wiki markup die-hards want to move to it, we're going to need your help. In the words of our co-founder and CEO, Scott Farquhar in this comment:

...for us to work on fixing this perfectly, we need your help.  And though it may seem obvious to you what these problems are, there is every chance we could be blind to them.  I'd love whatever help you can give us to make the experience the best of both worlds.  If you can tell us your problems, we can create solutions.  At the moment, people are telling us "the solution to my problems is wiki markup".  And whilst there is every chance that could be the only solution to your problem, please allow us the chance to understand the problem, rather than telling us the solution.  Even if you're right with the solution, we need to understand every dark corner of the problem to create an amazing solution.

Tell us your problems

As Scott said, we need to understand your problems. We know you miss wiki markup, but why? Is there something you used to do that you are now unable to? Do some things take you longer to do now? Hit a bug? Collaborate with us in the comments, we'll organise the feedback into themes and stories, create tickets in JIRA and link them back here for you to see the status. In a few cases where issues arise a lot but we think there is a way to solve this already, we've provided a link with information and noted the type as 'More Info'.

Don't be shy

Of course, anonymous feedback is find, but we'd encourage you to sign up and post with your own account so you can get notifications to replies (we will probably want to follow up with some more questions more often than not) and put a watch on the page so you can stay up to date on how anything you've raised is progressing.
