Unable to create an Issue Collector Form Upon Upgrading, Due to Required Attachment and Assignee

Symptoms

Upon upgrading to the latest JIRA version (JIRA 5.1.5 and Issue Collector Plugin version 1.2.5 as of today), the following exception appears on the screen. 

Cause

The fields Assignee and Attachment appear to be required. 

  • This behavior is a bug, whereby the Assignee field and the Attachment do not have the option to be required or optional.  The fact that these fields have the required condition is not the expected behavior.
  • It is not known how the Assignee gets marked as required, as it's not currently possible, see  JRA-1001 - Getting issue details... STATUS

Resolution

To avoid this, you will need to "refresh" the field by hiding them and then showing the fields again. 
  1. Access the Field Configuration Scheme for the project that will create the Issue Collector Form
  2. Locate the field Assignee and Attachment
  3. Hide these fields by clicking on the hide link
  4. Show these fields by clicking on the show link
    1. By now these fields should not be required
(info) Note: Make sure that you have enabled the Attachment setting, via Administration > System > Advanced > Attachment (tab), and see whether Attachment is ON.
