Purpose

To switch off HTTP compression when Crowd is running behind a proxy server (eg. Apache HTTPD web server) that have Gzip compression enabled. As of Crowd 2.9 the option to switch off HTTP compression via the UI have been removed as per the improvement request link below :

Solution

1. Go to <crowd_installation_directory>/apache-tomcat/conf
2. Edit the server.xml using a notepad editor
3. Search for the string/text for the word "compression" as per the screenshot shown below :
   
4. Change it from "on" to "off" and save your changes.
5. Restart Crowd for the changes to take effect
