By selecting the 'External user management' option in Confluence, you can disable the group and user management screens in Confluence. You need system administrator permissions to set this option.

Currently there are two bugs and an improvement request with this feature:

  • CONF-16709 — when the External User Management tick box is enabled, the group and user management screens are still functional.
  • CONF-21158 — enabling both Public Signup and External User Management renders a blanks screen during signup.
  • CONF-9830 — an open request to rename this feature to better reflect its functionality.

When to use this option:

To disable management of users and groups within Confluence,

  1. Select 'Security Configuration' in the left-hand panel.
  2. In the 'Security Configuration' screen, click 'Edit'.
  3. Check the 'External user management' checkbox.
  4. Click 'Save'.
