As a Jira administrator, you can create projects for all Jira applications that have been added to your site.
- To create company-managed projects, you must have the Administer Jira global permissions. Jira admins create and manage company-managed projects using schemes.
- To create team-managed projects, you must have the Create team-managed projects global permission. Create, edit, and delete team-managed service projects.
To create a project:
- Select Projects > Create project in the navigation.
- Under project templates, templates are grouped into a library of use-case-based categories. Under Products, templates are grouped by Jira Cloud products. Choose a category or product.
- Learn more about the available templates and select a template.
- View the detailed information on the template and choose Use template.
- Choose a project type: either a company-managed project or a team-managed project. Manage and administer team-managed service projects.
- Give your project a name. You can change your service project template by selecting Change template.
- Select Create.
We automatically generate a project key when the project is created. Whoever created the project is set as the project lead by default.
Create a project that shares its configuration with another project
Only Jira admins can create projects with a shared configuration. The shared configuration setting isn't available on Free plan. This procedure applies only to company-managed projects.
Projects that share configuration share:
- issue types
- workflows
- screens
- fields
- permissions
- notifications
And share specific features related to Jira Service Management as:
- Queues
- Reports
- Request types
- SLAs
- Components
- Language Support - Except Portal translations and Customer Notifications
If a change is made to one of the projects' configurations, that change affects all the projects that share that configuration. You'll be notified if a setting is shared.
To create a project with a shared configuration:
- Select Projects > Create project in the navigation.
- Under project templates, templates are grouped into a series of use-case-based categories. Under Products, templates are grouped by Jira Cloud products. Choose a category or product.
- Learn more about the available templates and select a template.
- View the detailed information on the template and choose Use template.
- Choose project type: Company-managed.
- Give your project a name.
- Tick the Share settings with an existing project checkbox.
- Use the Choose Project dropdown to select the project from which you want your new project to share its configuration.
- Select Create.
At this moment the Portal Settings, Customer Notifications, Knowledge Base, Automation, and Forms are features specific to each project and are not available to be shared between service projects, at this moment.
