Is there a way to define the format a field?

I added a field that contains a timestamp (e.g. the field "updated") but only the date is shown. I am trying to track progress of important issues during my workday, so I would need hours and minutes too (or instead).

Hi Per, I am not sure about this one. I would check with our support team (Get Support link at bottom of this page). Good luck.

How do I get the "fields to display" UI shown above?  I get "columns to display" without any ability to reorder them.

Are you using JIRA 5.2? This feature wasn't available until then. If you are on JIRA 5.1, this is documentation you need: Adding the Filter Results Gadget

I just learned today that we're on version 4.1.2 despite having hosted JIRA (I "inherited" this license from someone who is no longer at my company).

Does hosted JIRA require customers to request an upgrade?

Sounds like you should raise an issue on JIRA Support: https://support.atlassian.com/. Good luck!

There is a mistake in section "Adding the 'Filter Results' Gadget to your Dashboard" in point 2.

"Locate the Watched Issues gadget" must be "Locate the Filter Results gadget".

      Good catch! Fixed. (smile)
