An orphaned page is a page without any incoming links. This could either be because it was created without a parent, or because its parent was subsequently deleted.
When you are working in a large space with a number of pages, it is difficult to keep track of those pages that have been created, but have no incoming links. This means that these pages are not being viewed!
This view displays the list of all orphaned pages in your space. If a page is not linked to another page, it may either be redundant or need to be linked to a parent. This view allows you to "tidy up" the space by either deleting pages or reorganizing them such that they work best in your space.
