How access requests work

When a user lands in a product they don’t have access to, they’ll see a message prompting them to request access. Example: when a user without access opens a product link shared by a user who does have access.

Users can make requests in the following ways:

Type of user

What they can request

Existing users with access to at least one of your products

  • Access to a new product for themselves.

  • Access for existing or new users to the same product they have access to.

New users

Access requests can be made by users with a verified email address and Atlassian account. Users can only access your site or products if you choose to approve them.

How to approve or deny access requests

Access requests are collected into a list aggregated from all sites in your organization. You can approve or deny these requests on the User requests page or through related emails. We provide as much information as possible about the requesting user to help you make a decision.

  • When you grant a user access to a product, they’re added to the default product group and billing starts for the new user.

  • When you deny a user access to a product, you can send them a short message explaining why.

To approve or deny requests from the user requests page:

  1. Go to Atlassian Administration. Select your organization if you have more than one.

  2. Select Products from the header.

  3. Select User requests > Access requests.

  4. Select Review to see more details about the request.

  5. Select Approve to approve a request or select the 3 dot icon (•••) > Deny access to deny a request.

A user whose access is denied won’t be able to request access again.

The other tab on the page, called User interests, is where you can keep track of and review trending user interest in new apps. How to track or review users interests
