You can configure Confluence to send users to any of the space home pages on the site when they log in, rather than to the dashboard.

To configure the site-wide home page:

  1. Go to the 'Administration Console' and click 'General Configuration' in the left-hand panel.
  2. Click 'Edit' next to the 'Site Configuration' panel.
  3. Select a space from the 'Site Homepage' dropdown menu. When users log in, Confluence will open the home page of the space you choose here.
  4. Ensure that the 'View Space Goes to Browse Space' option is set to 'Off' if you want users to be sent to the space home page and not the space summary page.
  5. Click the 'Save' button at the bottom of the screen.

The spaces available to be set as your home page will depend on the access permissions of the space and the site.

  • The site home page must be accessible to the 'confluence-users' group.
  • If your site allows anonymous access, the site home page must also be accessible to anonymous users, that is, people who have not logged in to Confluence.

Once the default Site Homepage has been changed, how can a user easily return to the home page?

For example - once I set the default home page to something other than the dashboard, the dashboard still remains in the breadcrumb instead of displaying the newly configured site home page.

      Hi Ron

Thank you for pointing this out. It's a tricky one. If we set the breadcrumb trail to include the re-configured home page, instead of the Dashboard, then the breadcrumb trail would look a bit odd. The Dashboard is at the 'top' of the hierarchy, because it sits above all spaces. But a space home page might result in a breadcrumb trail something like this:
My Home Page > Space > My Home Page
      instead of:
Dashboard > Space > My Home Page.

The best solution would be a configurable Dashboard, so that the administrator can change the content of the Dashboard.

If you're interested, you could take a look at JIRA issue CONF-208. You can also and vote for the issue, to help boost its priority.

      Cheers – Sarah

I would like to suggest that having a customizable dashboard will not fix this issue for all use cases. It would be better to have the ability to redirect the dashboard to a page that we create in our own specific style, design, with pictures, attachments, videos – in short, a page that functions in the exact same way as a regular space homepage.

Is there a way to configure more than one Site Configuration?  Say I want requests for Server Base Url http://foo.com to redirect to page foo, and I want requests for Server Base Url http://bar.com to redirect to page bar.  The form seems to only accomodate one Site Configuration setting.

    Thanks,

    bc

      Hi bc,

We had this request previously, unfortunately, it was closed without fix due to complexity and small use case. You might want to learn more from the original improvement request here:

      Hope that helps!

How does this feature interact with the user-specific "site homepage" setting?

    1. Jul 28, 2009

A user-specific homepage setting will have the priority over the site-specific homepage setting. Hence, when the user logs in to Confluence, he will be redirected to his user-specific homepage instead of the site-specific homepage. Hope that answers your question.

Is there a way to set a users personal space as the site home page so that when any user logs in they are taken to their personal space ? One way will be to override the login action and then redirect it from there, or use redirect plug-in on a jump space to action this, but I was wondering if there was an easier way to go about it ?

Is it possible to set a tab other than Dashboard as the default Site Homepage? It seems as though only Spaces can be set as such.

I have ten spaces created on my Confluence instance.  But only one space and Dashboard gets listed in the drop down list of the Site Home page of General configuration?  Can any one help me in bringing in the other spaces in the dropdown list? My confluence version is 3.3.

      Dear Anon -

I had the same problem. It turns out I could only see the space keys for spaces which allowed access by my most inclusive security group - confluence-users. As soon as I added them as a group to a space and gave them viewing priviledges, voila - the space would show up in the drop down menu as a choice for the homepage.

      Hope this works for you.
