Before we dive into the details of different ways to change shared workspace ownership, let's define who is considered the owners of a shared workspace.

For shared workspaces on the Free plan, individuals who are added as administrators of the shared workspace will be regarded as the owners of the workspace.
| For shared workspaces that are on paid plans such as Standard or Premium, the users who are added as billing and technical contacts are considered to be the owners. |
Solution
There are 2 ways to change shared workspace ownership.
- Changing ownership by adding new administrators or primary billing and technical contacts
- Changing ownership to an existing shared workspace
Changing ownership by adding new administrators or billing and technical contacts
To add new administrators to any shared workspaces in the Free plan without billing information, please follow the steps below:
- Go to your workspace - https://bitbucket.org/workspace_id/
- Click the gear icon on the top right
- Click Workspace settings
- Click Use groups (and find your administrator groups, by default it is "Administrators")
- Click Add members button to invite a new administrator or owner
If you don't have administrator access to the shared workspace, you may need to ask an existing administrator to follow the steps above.
To add a new billing and technical contact to any shared workspaces in the paid plan (Standard or Premium) or Free plan with billing information, please follow the steps below:
Please log in to your account at https://my.atlassian.com using the email address associated with the current billing and technical contact of the shared workspace.
Upon accessing the website, you will be directed to the Licenses page as the default landing page.
Please click your shared workspace ID from the list provided.
Please enter the new email address into the input box designated for technical and billing contacts, then proceed to click on the "Add" button.
Once done, please proceed to log in to https://my.atlassian.com using the updated email address.
- Please click your shared workspace ID from the list provided.
- Lastly, click on the "Make Primary" button to designate your new email as the primary technical and billing contacts
