SSO for Atlassian Data Center release notes
Improvements to the SSO for Atlassia Data Center app
February 2021
We're proud to announce new enhancements to the SSO for Atlassian Server and Data Center app. To download the app, and to see the most up-to-date supported products and version information, go to Atlassian Marketplace.
Using multiple IdPs
We’re happy to announce that from now on you can configure multiple identity providers (IdPs) in SAML and OpenID Connect configuration. This feature is available for the following Atlassian Data Center products:
Jira 8.16 or later
Bitbucket 7.12 7.12 or later
Blocking basic authentication
Authenticating with username and password is considered less secure than using single sign-on (SSO). If you have already configured any SSO authentication method in your environment, you now have an option of blocking authentication with username and password in the login portal and in API calls.
Just-in-time user provisioning
June 21th 2020
Just-in-time user provisioning (JIT provisioning) allows users to be created and updated automatically when they log in through SAML SSO or OpenID Connect (OIDC) SSO to Atlassian Data Center applications.
The plugin is available in Atlassian Marketplace for the the following Data Center products:
- Jira
- Bitbucket
- Confluence
For more information, see Working with JIT provisioning.

Jan 21st 2020
Many enterprises still struggle to use industry-standard user management tools to authenticate to Atlassian. Couple months back, we added SAML support to all of our Data Center products and now we introducing a new authentication option through OpenID Connect integration to enables seamless integration with 3rd party Identity Provider.
The plugin is available in Atlassian Marketplace for the the following Data Center products:
- Jira
- Bitbucket

For more information, see OpenID Connect for Atlassian Data Center applications.

We have extended the scope of the plugin to include SAML for Atlassian Data Center products and Crowd single sign-on for Server and Data Center products. Now, you can use Crowd as your identity provider and get the single sign-on functionality across your Atlassian products, even those located in other domains. Alternatively, you can connect your applications to major identity providers that implement the SAML 2.0 specifications.
The Crowd SSO works for Crowd version 3.4.0 or later.
SAML for Atlassian Data Center 2.0.1
November 22nd 2016
We are pleased to announce the release of the SAML for Atlassian Data Center 2.0.1 add-on. This is a major version release, including new features and bugfixes. Due to this, it's incompatible with earlier product releases. Please check the marketplace listing for an exact list of compatible versions.
Users are now updated from LDAP directories on log in
Whenever a user from an LDAP directory logs in using SAML, the user details will be updated from the LDAP directory according to the configuration in the 'User directories' page. This could include creating or renaming the user, as well as updating the user's details and group memberships.
This allows SAML authentication to work with directories configured as 'Internal with LDAP Authentication'. This change also means that user changes in synchronized directories are visible immediately when the user logs in, rather than waiting for the next synchronization to occur.
Remember user logins
User logins can now be remembered in their browsers. When using this setting users will be automatically logged in again, without having to re-authenticate with the SAML provider. This is a global setting, configurable on the SSO 2.0 screen.
