  • You will need to have the 'Edit Issue' permission in the project(s) to which the issue belongs and to which the Epic belongs.
  • This page only applies to GreenHopper 6.0.6 and later, and only applies if Epics are enabled in Labs. 
To create a new issue and add it to an epic
  1. Log in to JIRA.
  2. Click the Agile link's down-arrow in the top navigation bar, then select your preferred board from the resulting dropdown menu.

  3. Your board will be displayed. Click Plan.
  4. If the Epics panel is not shown at the left of the screen, select Tools > Show Epic Panel.
  5. In the Epics panel, click the triangle at the left of the epic name to display the epic details.
  6. Click the Create Issue link in the relevant epic box in the Epics panel.
To add existing issues to an epic
  1. Log in to JIRA.
  2. Click the Agile link's down-arrow in the top navigation bar, then select your preferred board from the resulting dropdown menu.

  3. Your board will be displayed. Click Plan.
  4. If the Epics panel is not shown at the left of the screen, select Tools > Show Epic Panel.
  5. In the Epics panel, click the triangle at the left of the epic name to display the epic details.
  6. Drag the issue(s) onto the relevant epic. The epic will turn green (see Screenshot 1).
  7. The epic's label will be added to the issue (see Screenshot 2).

(tick) To find all the issues that belong to a particular epic, click the epic label in the left-hand Epics panel, or use the following JQL syntax:

"epic link" = <Issue key>
