Sharing roadmaps

This information applies to Portfolio for Jira 3.0 and later. If you're using an earlier version (2.0 to 2.27) see the Portfolio for Jira live plans documentation.

You can share a read-only version of a roadmap to keep stakeholders up-to-date on how business initiatives are tracking across your organization.

If you have Confluence Server or Confluence Data Center, you can insert a real-time, lightweight plan in a Confluence page of your choice.

Anyone who has permission to view your plan can access the roadmap you're sharing.

Sharing a read-only roadmap

When you share a read-only roadmap, it will inherit any filters and settings you've configured on the roadmap, like issue hierarchy, filters, timeline date range, view settings, and more.

To share a read-only roadmap:

  1. Above the timeline, select Share.
  2. To share the roadmap as a read-only link:
    1. Select Link.
    2. Click Copy.
    3. Give the link to people you want to share your roadmap with.
  3. To share and embed the roadmap in an HTML page:
    1. Click Embed.
    2. Click Copy.
    3. Give the link to stakeholders you want to share your roadmap with. You can use the link in any HTML page that supports URL embedding.

Consider hiding warnings in the roadmap to show a clean view to stakeholders. You'll need to clear the Warnings checkbox in View settings before you generate the link. See Customizing view settings to learn how to do this.

Share a roadmap in a Confluence page

When you share a roadmap in a Confluence page, it will inherit any filters and settings you've configured on the roadmap, like issue hierarchy, filters, timeline date range, view settings, and more.

Before you begin

To embed a plan in a Confluence page, a Confluence administrator must download and install the Plans in Confluence app from the Atlassian Marketplace. This app gives you access to the macro for Confluence Server and Data Center versions 6.5.0 and above.

Similarly, you can use the HTML macro to add HTML code to a Confluence page, but enabling this macro can make your Confluence instance vulnerable to cross-scripting attacks. Learn more at HTML macro.

To download and install the app:

  1. Go to the Atlassian Marketplace, and choose the Server or Data Center hosting option.
  2. Follow the instructions under the Installation tab.

To share a plan:

  1. Make sure the Plans in Confluence app is installed (see Before you begin).
  2. Above the timeline, select Share.
  3. Select Confluence from the left side menu options.
  4. Copy the generated link from the Share plan modal.
  5. Insert the macro on a Confluence page by following the instructions at Macros.
  6. In Confluence, paste the generated link in the URL field, see image below:

  7. Choose the height you'd like the plan to display on the Confluence page.

  8. Select Insert.

We recommend a minimum height of 700px for an effective viewing experience.
