Plugin providers sometimes release plugin updates to fix bugs or incorporate new features in their plugins. The release roadmap for an individual plugin is independent of the host application release track, although a plugin update is often released following a major release of the host application software. In general, it is recommended that you keep plugins updated to their latest version.
The Universal Plugin Manager (UPM) makes it easy to keep plugins up to date. In online mode, UPM can detect when a new version of an installed update is available. When it is, UPM notifies the administrator through a plugin notification. The plugin also appears in the list of 'Available Updates' in the 'Manage Plugins' page.
To see version information for a plugin for which an update is available, click on the plugin in the 'Available Updates' list. In the details view for the plugin, you can see both the installed and available version numbers for the plugin.
From there, you can update the individual plugin or all plugins at once.
This page describes plugin updates. When planning a software update of the Atlassian host application software itself, you can use the Universal Plugin Manager to check the compatibility of your installed plugins against the version of the application to which you want to update. See Checking Plugin Compatibility for Application Upgrades for more information.

Click the Update All button to update every plugin to the plugin to the latest version.
Note: Not all plugins can be installed or upgraded via the Universal Plugin Manager. There are some plugins that you must manually install and upgrade.
Instead of updating a plugin automatically (that is, by using the Update button), you can update it by manually loading the updated JAR file to the application. The update procedure is identical to the one for installing plugins by file upload. When you perform this procedure for an existing plugin, the old plugin version is removed from the file system, and the new one is added.
You do not normally need to remove the out-of-date plugin JAR from the system, as long as the plugin developer has taken care to increment the version identifier within the plugin descriptor. If you have problems with the update that you think are related to version issue conflicts, contact the plugin developer.
