How to update Jira filter owned by other users as an admin

Purpose

If administrator doesn’t have edit permission for filter, it’s not possible to edit filter. This document will walk you through all of the steps required to update a filter owned by other users.

Solution

  1. Change Owner
    1. Move to Jira admin > System > Filters

    2. Click cog icon and select Change Owner

  2. Update filter
    1. Move to header Issues > Manage filters

    2. Search the filter that you changed owner

    3. Update filter conditions and click Save button

  3. Restore owner from Jira admin > System > Filters

Private filter cannot be managed in Jira admin > System > Filters earlier than Jira 8.11.0.
