Updating user's project role fails with error "Something went wrong. Try again"

Summary

When a user with project Administrators role tries to add a user or update a user's project role via the People section of the project, the Project Admin sees the error Something went wrong. Try again.


Environment

Jira Service Management Cloud

Cause

The Project Administrator does not have Browse users and Groups global permission.

Solution

Use the below steps to assign Browse users and Groups global permission to the Project Administrator:

  1. Choose Settings (Cog Wheel) > System > Click Global Permissions.

  2. Scroll to the bottom of the page to find the Add Permission section.

  3. Select the permission Browse users and groups in the Permission dropdown.

  4. In the Group drop-down list, select the group that Project Administrator is added to and click Add

(info) Alternatively, add the Project Administrator to one of the user groups that has Browse users and groups permission. For this, check the Update group membership section in Managing groups page or the To add users to a group section in Edit a group page.
