Summary

A Jira user is unable to to drag and drop issues in an Advanced Roadmaps plan:

  • when the user tries to change the order of an issue by dragging it up or down, the issue is highlighted in pink color and automatically goes back to where it was:
  • when the user tries to move an issue under a parent issue (for example, an Epic issue under an Initiative issue), the issue is highlighted in pink color and automatically goes back to where it was:

Environment

  • Jira Software on Server/Data Center on any version from 8.15.0
  • Or any lower Jira version with Advanced Roadmaps for Jira installed on top of it

Diagnosis

  • The issue only impacts specific Jira users (other users are able to drag and drop issues in the same plan)
  • A round arrow can be seen on the far right field column, and when hovering over it, the message "reset sorting order" pops up
  • When clicking on the View Settings menu on the right side, we can see that the Sort By parameter is set to something else than Rank:

Cause

The user configured their Plan View settings so that issues are not ordered by Rank. With such configuration, it will not be possible to drag and drop any issue on the plan (this behavior is by design).

Solution

Set the Sort by parameter to Rank via either method below:

  • Either click on the round arrow from the plan:
  • Or go to View Settings, and set the Sort by parameter to Rank:
