Move Objects
If the Jira instance is stopped or if the Insight plugin is upgraded, disabled or uninstalled during the move process the objects in transition may end up in an inconsistent state. If this happens check the logs for the DataInconsistencyEntries that specifies which objects could be invalid. The log contains the values so the object could be restored if no backup is available.
Used to move one or more objects from one object type to another within the same object schema.
How to move objects
Given an object schema with 3 Equipment objects of which 2 are cameras this example will demonstrate how to move this 2 objects to a new more descriptive object type.
First, select the objects you would like to move. The recommended way of selecting objects is with the IQL (advanced filtering), as it will increase the performance.
Choose the move objects from the bulk action menu and the move objects dialog will open.
Destination object type (Select Object Type)
Second, select the destination type and press next. The object type which the objects are about to be moved to will have to be configured beforehand. Make sure the destination type fulfils your requirements before moving the objects.
Handle Inbound References
If the objects that are to be moved are referenced from other Insight objects you will have to decide how to handle the references. The reason for this is to prevent data inconsistency between the objects and the object type configuration. The choices you will have to choose from are:
Keep reference(s)
Only available if moving from an object type which is a parent or ancestor of the destination path (e.g. Camera is a child of Equipment in the given example) and the objects which have the outbound reference must have their attributes configured to "Include children". If this option is chosen all references will be left untouched and the moved objects will have the same inbound references as before the move.
Remove reference(s)
When moving the objects and an inbound reference is found. The object which has the outbound reference will have it's attribute changed and the referenced to the moved object removed. This option will affect other objects as well as the objects moved.
Do not move object(s)
When an inbound reference is found that object is not moved. This will leave some objects and move objects that do not have an inbound reference.
Select Attribute types
The third step is to configure the attribute mapping. On the left hand side you will see the attributes configured in the from object type. You will have to choose how to map these attributes in the object type you are moving the objects to. Insight will make suggestions on how to map the attributes. It is entirely up to you to change the suggestions. If you do not wish to include a specific attribute, choose "discard". If some attributes are not mappable (i.e. different attribute types, missing attributes in the target object type) this will be the same as discarding them.
If an attribute is discarded the value is lost and after the move operation is complete the value can only be retrieved from a backup.
Confirm
The last step is to confirm the move operation.
An in progress dialog will be shown. You may dismiss the dialog as shown below.
If you want to see it again choose move objects again from the bulk actions menu and you will be prompted with a similar progress bar.
Only one move operation can be active in Insight at the same time. This is to prevent extensive load on the system. If another move operation is started on another object schema ie following dialog will be displayed
